For over 40 years, Solomon has developed energy and sustainability metrics that are recognized as industry standards by global regulatory entities and industry associations. Solomon is pleased to announce the inclusion of analyzing sustainability performance in our liquid terminal studies–the 2023 Worldwide Liquid Terminal Performance Analysis (Liquid Terminal Study) and the 2023 Petroleum Terminal Productivity Analysis (PTPA Study) – and our 2023 Worldwide Liquid Pipeline Performance Analysis (Liquid Pipeline Study).
In recent years, the terminals and pipelines industry has placed significant focus in promoting strategies that support energy efficiency, emissions reductions and decarbonization. To support these efforts, newly added sustainability metrics can assist your facilities in achieving these goals by assessing your terminal and/or pipelines systems’ sustainability performance against industry peers to deduce industry standing and recommendations to improve.
Our new and updated metrics include:
- Carbon Emissions Index (CEI) – Solomon has developed a Liquid Terminal Study and Liquid Pipeline Study CEI, a metric introduced in 2007 for the Solomon Fuels Study. CEI, the primary metric for GHG emissions, measures direct (Scope 1) and indirect (Scope 2) emissions. CEI considers electricity fuel mix, sources of thermal energy, gasoline and crude oil loading emissions, and vapor control methods as the foundations for GHG calculations.
- Energy Intensity Index™ (EII®) – The recognized gold standard used for measuring energy efficiency has been incorporated into the Solomon Liquid Terminal Study and Liquid Pipeline Study since 2019. Based on terminal throughput, EII adjusts for product type, thermal energy requirements, and utilizes modes of transportation to benchmark terminal energy efficiency.
